To say that I’m on cloud nine would the understatement of the century! I still can’t quite believe it and even though I’ve had a few days for it to sink in, it all feels a bit surreal (as do the words… “We’re engaged!”). The weekend was a bit of a whirlwind of toasts and celebrations so I feel like I’m still trying to settle into everything but I wanted to check in on here to share the news and a few details 🙂
The proposal happened on Saturday and I had no idea (as evidenced by the fact that I hadn’t bothered to do my nails – I think probably the first time in years that I didn’t have any polish on – typical!)! I was due to meet my friends for drinks and then meet Dan after for dinner. All went to plan and Dan asked to meet in Leicester Square where he was watching a street performer.
After spotting him in the crowd, he mentioned how brilliant he thought this street performer was and when I suggested we go to dinner, he said that we should watch for just a bit longer (**I still had zero clue at this point**). Soon the segment was up and the performer was asking for volunteers – and Dan steps up. The performer then asks whoever he’s with to come up too. Usually, I hate that sort of thing but I was about two glasses of Prosecco in which made me a little bolder than usual!
The performer presents a large wooden jewellery box and challenges me to open it. Only issue is: it’s locked and I don’t have a key. He tells me to check my pockets… but nothing. Then he suggests that maybe I should check my bag. Lo and behold, the key is in my bag!
I manage to open the box and inside are two words:
“Turn around”
At that moment, I hear a gasp from the crowd. I turn around and Dan is down on one knee and asks me to marry him!!! 😀
The rest of the night is a bit of a blur to be honest although I do remember my mum and friends jumping out from the crowd after to surprise me! Once we’d taken some photos, we all went for drinks at one of my favourites, the Covent Garden Hotel and then Dan and I finished up the night by heading to dinner at one of our favourite restaurants 🙂
