Now this was one I debated about for a while. An absolute classic in the Chanel world (I still can’t believe the discontinuation rumours are true…), I’ve been eyeing it for years. My hesitancy came down to the following concerns:
- Is it too similar in function to my black caviar jumbo? I dislike the idea of doubling up on bags – especially at this price point.
- Is the style a bit too ‘old’ for me?
- Will it hold its shape? I’ve seen some GSTs which look distinctly worse for wear.
In the end, I decided to take the plunge. I calmed my fears by reasoning that I needed another bag that was suitable for work as my jumbo simply felt too fancy for everyday and that I could make the style work by adding a charm or two to make it look a little younger. My concern about the shape also began to wane over time as the more GSTs I saw in real life, the more I liked that the bag didn’t always looks so stiff and rigid.
And, if I’m being honest, the fact that the GST is approximately half the price of a jumbo makes me a little less concerned about it holding its shape. Whilst that’s the number one thing I value about my jumbo – the fact that after 5 years, it still looks like new – for a workhorse bag that I use on the regular, I’m okay with it changing over time.
I did film an unboxing for this one but combined it with a how-to for shopping at Chanel Heathrow without passing through Terminal 3 so I’m going to do a separate post about that 🙂
