Reflections on 2016 + My Resolutions

I did a post like this last year and I really enjoy taking the time to reflect upon the year so thought I would do it again this year. This was meant to go up yesterday but everything is taking me longer at the moment – thanks to the worst cold I’ve had in years! In between all the sniffles though, I managed to just about get my thoughts together!

Last year was a crazy one – I’ve always liked to keep myself busy but I don’t remember ever being as busy as I was in 2016. Fortunately Dan also found himself with extra projects and work which meant that at least the busy-ness wasn’t one sided and we could share in our mutual exhaustion! We’re going to try for a more healthy work life balance this year but we’re both proud of what we achieved and hopefully it will all lead to even better things in 2017.

My YouTube channel has grown into something bigger and better than I ever could have imagined and while I’m under no illusions that I have a massive channel, 60,000+ subscribers is more than I ever thought I’d achieve so I am truly grateful. I have so many ideas and plans for 2017 and I cannot wait to get stuck in!

My blog is something I’m also so excited about and despite all the talk about blogs dying, I still love them and have found so many new ones this year that I visit on a weekly, if not daily basis. Whilst I would never watch YouTube videos at work, I love visiting my favourite blogs whilst having a tea break and it always makes me want to work harder on mine! I hope to get to the point where I’m posting one bit of content each day – whether that’s on my YouTube channel or blog so that if you do like what I do, you can check back daily and there’s always something new to read or watch.

A huge thing that happened in 2016 was that we bought a flat! We moved in at the very beginning of 2016 and we only just finished decorating. It’s crazy that it’s taken us almost a year! It’s been so nice to settle in and make the place our own though. One of our resolutions for the new year is to be more social and start hosting more so hopefully we’ll make full use of the flat this year 🙂

As for new year resolutions, I’m going to try and make more time for exercise and both Dan and I said we’re going to try and eat cleaner (how unoriginal I know!). I’m also making it a resolution to moisturise daily – which sounds ridiculous but it’s always the one thing I put off and never end up doing! Of course I hope to grow my channel and blog more as well as continue to progress in my career. I have no idea where the year will take me but I’m so excited for the coming year!

Do you have any new years resolutions? I would love to hear about them below!

Hi Amie, I discovered you in 2016 and find you so refreshing in the youtube world. Sophisticated, elegant, mature and just classy. I love that you have a full time job outside of youtube which makes it so much more relatable to us. I'm no longer into luxury items big time now, but I still love watching your videos. The way you speak is so pleasant.

Here's to a great 2017! Love your 2017 goals. Here are mine:

Hi Lara! So great to hear from you again! They sound like great resolutions! I'm on the weight loss bandwagon too although I don't have any pregnancies to blame – just myself haha! Good luck with your goals – hopefully we'll both be successful! 🙂

Just finished watching your recent video, Amie!

2016 has been quite a roller coaster ride. I got pregnant (in 2015), lose my firstborn in March, and then bought my first house.

Id be hoping for another baby, shed some weight so I look good in my travel photos & save up for our 2018 trip to Europe 🙂

Oh Syera, I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you have a lot to look forward to though – and congratulations on your first house, a huge accomplishment. I wish you all the best in 2017, I really do hope you have a wonderful year! 🙂 xx

    Hi Amie!

I am sorry to hear that the cold is still bugging you! I really started following blogs and YouTubers in 2016 and finally got an instagram! I had started my own small business of buying/selling on many sites in the pre-loved market but following all the bloggers made me want to start a bit of my own online/social media branding! I am definitely still in the beginning stages but it is fun to see how my style has grown and I think I am starting to find my place. I have even gotten a few customers through instagram and YouTube, so that has been great! You are a huge inspiration and I really love your classy and educated approach. You are an excellent role model and #girlboss!
One goal I have for 2017 is try to grow my online presence and find ways to incorporate this social media world into my teaching (I teach communication at a few universities). It would mean a great deal to get any tips you might be able to throw my way!
Here are my sites if you can possibly find the time to take a look. I know you just said how busy you are! I am so excited to see what you have up your sleeve for 2017!
